Environmental Investment Centre backs development of selective lithium recovery technology.
Jälle Technologies is pleased to announce it has been awarded €300,000 in funding from the Environmental Investment Centre (KIK) to support the development of its innovative lithium recovery process from used batteries.
This grant will help the company build and test its pilot-scale technology for selectively recovering lithium from battery waste, improving the efficiency and sustainability of critical material recovery. The project aims to reduce environmental impact, conserve valuable resources, and strengthen Europe’s battery supply chain resilience.
Kerli Liivand, Chief Technology Officer, commented:
“Selective lithium recovery is one of the biggest technical challenges in battery recycling. This grant will enable us to refine our processes and demonstrate their effectiveness at pilot scale, helping set new industry standards for sustainability and material purity.” She added: “We’re grateful for KIK’s support and recognition of the importance of developing advanced, sustainable solutions for critical material recovery. This funding is essential for moving our technology closer to real-world application and delivering on our vision of a circular battery economy.”
About the Environmental Investment Centre (KIK): KIK is an Estonian state foundation that supports environmental protection, sustainable development, and green innovation through targeted funding programs. By financing projects like advanced battery recycling, KIK promotes resource efficiency and helps Estonia meet its climate and environmental goals.
The goal of the project is to develop and validate a pilot-scale process for selective lithium recovery from used batteries, enabling efficient, high-purity extraction while reducing environmental impact and supporting a circular economy. Expected results include a functional pilot system, optimized process parameters, improved resource efficiency, and strengthened local expertise to help Estonia and Europe meet sustainability and critical raw material supply goals. Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Jälle Technologies remains committed to developing advanced recycling technologies that reduce waste, recover critical materials, and enable a low-carbon, circular economy for batteries in Europe.
